Peaceful Hope - 1 Thessalonians 5:23
We are considering First Thessalonians 5:23 and look at our Peaceful Hope. Though the Christian life is a life of action, it is not a life of performance. The perspective of Christian living is to turn our eyes to Jesus. We’ll learn that God is the source of peace. The starting place of peace is knowing God. The one and only true and living God is the location of peace. He is the God of peace. This peace is more than an absence of hostility. This is peace unto blessedness. The verse continues by identifying two blessings of this peace. God supplies us with sanctification and preservation. God is at work making us holy and holding us in His care. This verse then directs our attention to the culmination of full and complete sanctification and preservation at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. On that great and glorious day, “we know that He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is” (First John 3:2b). What will God do on that day? He will sanctify you and preserve you blameless. And why will God do this? Because He is faithful (5:24). We are truly blessed because God is the God of peace.
