On this very special day, we’ll learn about the journey of motherhood in the book of Ruth. Ruth illustrates that a mother is faithful, loyal, dutiful, and loving. The backdrop of Ruth’s narrative was during dark and difficult times. We’ll learn how Ruth responded to the numerous adversities of a shortage of food and the death of loved ones. Her primary response is one of faith in the God of Israel followed with a life of faith. Having traveled from Moab to Bethlehem, Ruth harvests leftover grain from the field of Boaz. Eventually, Boaz became Ruth’s kinsmen redeemer (4:4-5,8), Boaz married Ruth, and God gave them a son (4:13). The key word in Ruth is kindness (1:8; 2:20; 3:10). Kindness is God’s lovingkindness and steadfast love. This is God’s love that is reliable, unfailing, and active. Throughout Ruth, we see God’s kindness in providing food, care, a husband, a son. Yet above all, we see God provided for us His Son, “Jesus Christ, the Son of David” (Matthew 1:1). The Lord Jesus Christ is our Great Redeemer!
